According to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, the reason behind Victoria Alonso’s firing from Marvel Studios by Disney was due to her Oscar-nominated drama Argentina, 1985, which was distributed by Amazon.

Sources claim that Alonso violated her 2018 contract with Disney by working for a competing studio without permission.

Furthermore, even after being reminded of her breach of contract, Alonso continued to contribute to the film and participated in its publicity campaign, including appearing on the Oscars red carpet with director Santiago Mitre.

Alonso’s involvement in the publicity campaign of Argentina, in 1985, coupled with Marvel Studios’ busy schedule of producing VFX-heavy projects, reportedly infuriated Disney, leading to her termination.

The decision to fire Alonso was made by Disney’s Alan Bergman, along with the company’s legal and human resources department.

Why Victoria Alonso Continued Working on ‘Argentina, 1985’ Despite Disney’s Warnings

The firing of Victoria Alonso from Marvel Studios by Disney has raised several questions, one of which is why she continued to work on and promote Argentina, 1985, despite reportedly being warned by Disney not to.

While the project was personal to Alonso, as a high-ranking studio executive, she was surely aware of the risks of breaching her contract and working for two competing studios.

It’s unclear whether her involvement in the film and its publicity campaign, coupled with Marvel StudiosVFX issues, played a part in her dismissal. However, her departure comes amidst Disney CEO Bob Iger’s plan to decrease the Chapek-era levels of MCU content.

As a result, her replacement may have fewer projects to manage. It remains to be seen what impact Alonso’s absence will have on the larger MCU.

The saga surrounding Victoria Alonso’s exit from Marvel Studios by Disney is ongoing, and it will be interesting to see how it develops in the coming days.
